Scope Of Application


Petrochemical is the term that describes the transformation of crude oil (petroleum) into useful organic chemical products or raw materials.

The petrochemicals industry sources raw materials from petroleum or natural gases and converts these raw materials into valuable products using a variety of chemical process technologies. On the other hand, the mechanical conversion of these raw materials into final goods (textile products, plastics, automobile tires) is not within the scope of the petrochemical industry.

The start of the petrochemistry as it is known today dates back to the 1920s and 1925s. The petrochemical industry was born as the demand for synthetic materials to replace costly natural products increased. The conversion of gaseous olefins into alcohols, glycols, and ketones gave chemistry a new field. It soon became popular all over the world because it allowed for a very different kind and cheaper production.

The methods that used in PetroChemical industry can be divided into 3 groups in general.

1. Aliphatics, as butadiene, butylene, propylene, propane, acetylene, ethylene, ethane from high temperature cracking of petroleum products or natural gas
2. Aromatics; includes Benzene, toluene and xylenes, from the reformate produced in catalytic reformers using Naphtha obtained from petroleum refineries.
3. Inorganics, as sulfur, animal charcoal, hydrogen cyanide, ammonia.

Petrochemical Industry In Turkey

The lack of need arising from lack of use of petroleum products, are some of the reasons for turkey’s late entry. After the first establishment in 1965 to start and develop a petrochemical industry in the country, Turkey has achieved remarkable growth and development.

Today 25% of all chemicals produced in Turkey are intertwined with the petrochemical industry. The cheap cost of products and the wide range of applications make petrochemicals irreplaceable.


Pigments, resins and fillers are the basic ingredients for paint. Solvent and special effect pigments are used in some paint production methods. Additives are a wide variety of materials used to provide high quality paint.

Depending on the purpose of use, type of paint and futures vary. These include construction / building, industrial, automotive, furniture and marine paints. In addition, considering the fact that there may be a spare product for each raw material product, the total number of varieties reaches 3,400.

Turkey paint industry produces about 350 thousand tons of paint per year, and the total market value raised $350 million.


Plasticizers are chemicals that are added to plastic processing mixtures and alter the physical and mechanical properties of the final product. They are fillers that facilitate the flow and processability of the plastic in heat and pressure forming, reduce the brittleness and increase the flexibility. Plasticizers; must be compatible with plastic, must be able toproperly mix very well and remain in the structure.

Rubber Industry

Rubber Industry is a sector that produces intermediate products for the manufacturing industry. It is mostly used in packaging industry, and it is also preferred in construction sector since it is maintenance free and corrosion resistant. The most common uses are; doors&windows frames, water pipes, water tanks, roof facade coatings. The agriculture usages are greenhouses, irrigation hoses.


Metal coatings are being applied to metal in order to protect the metal and reduce wear and tear. An unprotected metal will rust and corrode due to environmental exposure. By coating the metal, an extra layer of protection is provided. Metal parts which are used in the machine electrical and furniture industries, terminals, clips, hinges, molded parts, glass hinges, bolts used are coated in order to prevent corrosion and metal abrasion.


Composites are generally made of two or more materials which still take advantage of the good characteristics of each materials. Therefore; where low weight and high strength are required, composite materials are used instead of metals.

In chemistry, they are used widely in acid tanks and coatings, pipes, process vessels in chemical, Treatment equipment, Industrial rails, Ventilation Systems etc..
